Getting your player ready...

This project from celebrity designer and Colorado native Mark Montano’s book “The Big-Ass Book of Home Decor,” is a quick way to make an elegant or offbeat headboard that’s ideal for a teen’s bedroom. It’s also easy to change out the fabric as needed, which is why Montano especially loves this budget decorating idea. Photos: Courtesy of Mark Montano

SUPPLIES
3    large picture frames that will fit across your bed
2    yards of batting, the padding that’s used for quilting
2    yards of fabric
     Heavy duty packing tape
     Scissors
Hammer and nails to hang your frames

DIRECTIONS
1. Remove the glass and paper from your frames; you won’t need them. You will need the hard piece of board that fits on the back of the frame, so don’t toss that! Let’s call that board the frame back.

2. Lay your frame back on your fabric. Add 3 inches to each side all the way around; cut out along those lines.

3. Cut two more pieces of fabric in the same size.

4. Lay your frame back on the batting and cut around it exactly.

5. Place your batting on the frame back and lay the fabric over that evenly.

6. Pull the fabric toward the back and with the heavy-duty packing tape, tape down the fabric around the frame back. (You can also use a staple gun for this part.)

7. Place this piece into the frame and secure it in place with the metal stays.

8. Repeat this with the other two frames.

9. Figure out where on the wall you want to hang your frames and do so with your hammer and nails. Montano suggests actually nailing the frames to the wall instead of hanging them on the wall. This will help keep them in place.

10. Change out the fabric whenever you want to redecorate again.
