DENVER—Firefighters rescued two people after their car plunged upside down into an Englewood pond several feet deep.

Authorities say they were rushed to Swedish Medical Center after Saturday’s accident and listed in critical condition.

The two were headed down Hampden Avenue when the driver lost control and the car veered into the water.

Fire department spokesman Jason Hehn says just the rear tires and bumper were visible when two firefighters reached the scene, dove in, and pulled them to safety through the window.

He says the two weren’t breathing. They’re identities weren’t released.
