Red Sox outfielder Daniel Nava, left, hit the first pitch he faced in the big leagues for a grand slam Saturday against the Phillies. Nava became only the fourth player to connect for a slam in his first major-league at-bat — and second on the first pitch. Evergreen’s Kevin Kouzmanoff, playing for Cleveland, did it Sept. 2, 2006, against Texas, according to Stats LLC. The switch-hitting Nava was called up from Triple-A before the game. Nava is the 10th player in Red Sox history to homer in his first at-bat. His parents arrived at Fenway Park from Sacramento, Calif., just in time to see the second-inning shot.
