Some say love is a many-splendored thing. Some say it’s a rathole.

In Castle Rock, it’s magical.

Recently at the town’s Theatre of Dreams, a house of magic that’s been pulling in crowds for seven years, local Darren Kerstien and his girlfriend, Allison, were pulled on stage for some audience participation.

Darren took a ring off Allison’s finger and it disappeared. Oops! Then he reached inside a Cracker Jack box she was holding and found a sealed surprise box — and inside it was her ring! Then, in a magical flair, he turned it into a diamond- encrusted engagement ring. He popped the magic question, she said the magic word.

This was all done with the help of theater owners Joe Givan and Carol Massie. “It was a blast,” says Givan. “But something like this is always a challenge. And it could have gone wrong or she could have said no.”

Smarts.

The next night, Thursday, Do at the Zoo growls at the Denver Zoo. Hairdos and don’ts.

I love it that Carly Fiorina

, California’s Republican nominee for Senate, dissed the hairdo of Democrat Barbara Boxer

, who currently holds the seat. Not knowing her mic was live before a TV interview, Fiorina said of Boxer, “God, what is that hair? . . . So yesterday.”

Feeling the hurt, Arvada’s Yacht Club Salon is offering one free haircut to all registered Colorado politicos. “It’s time for political candidates to shape up,” says owner Heidi Casler. “Looks matter.”

City spirit.

Duane “Dog” Chapman, the Denver native who stars in A&E’s “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” was in Longmont on Thursday to capture a man who didn’t turn up in Boulder District Court on drug charges. Dog got his man as the cameras rolled and the neighbors looked on . . . The English Speaking Union celebrates the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II 2-4 p.m. today at the Denver Press Club . . .
