DURANGO — Mining operations at two gold mines in La Plata Canyon have been suspended until at least July 8 following state regulators’ rejection of the operator’s permit.
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety denied a permit for Wildcat Mining Corp.’s Idaho mine in the canyon out of concerns about a steep road.
The decision affects the company’s access to its Idaho and Mayday mines. Company officials can appeal the decision at the Mined Land Reclamation Board’s next meeting, July 14.
