Residents of Berthoud’s Collins Park subdivision were put on alert this afternoon as the Larimer County Sheriff’s bomb squad removed dangerous material from the truck of an excavation company worker.
The employee of Left Hand Excavation found a chemical used in blasting at a work site at put it in the back of his Ford pickup, according to a spokeswoman for the Berthoud Fire Protection District.
This afternoon, the employee’s boss told him to contact authorities immediately about the substance. The fire department issued a reverse 9-1-1 call at 3:18 p.m. to residents near Chokeberry and Serviceberry streets to stay inside while the bomb squad collected the chemical, called Apex Extra.
