BERTHOUD — Residents of the Collins Park subdivision were put on alert Sunday afternoon as the Larimer County sheriff’s bomb squad removed dangerous material from the truck of an excavation-company worker.
The employee of Left Hand Excavation found a chemical used in blasting at a work site and put it in the back of his Ford pickup truck, according to a spokeswoman for the Berthoud Fire Protection District.
Sunday afternoon, the employee’s boss told him to contact authorities immediately about the substance. The Fire Department issued an emergency-notification-system phone call at 3:18 p.m. to residents near Chokeberry and Serviceberry streets to stay inside while the bomb squad collected the chemical, Apex Extra.
