A 46-year-old Fort Collins man has been arrested as a suspect in a decades-old, cold case murder.
In January of 1982 the body of 17-year-old Gay Lyn Dixon was found about two miles east of Stove Prairie Landing in the mountains west of Fort Collins.
Dixon had been shot in the head three times, her jaw was broken and she had suffered additional blunt force trauma to the face, according to a media release from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
The teenage victim had been working at a local restaurant and had attended a large birthday party the night before her body was found.
This morning, investigators arrested David Hehn of Fort Collins as a suspected in Dixon’s death. Hehn has been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping, the sheriff’s office said. He is being held at the Larimer County Jail.
The sheriff’s office did not release further details, citing the investigation as ongoing.
