Pueblo Police Chief Jim Billings issued a statement tonight saying he would retire on the 36th anniversary of joining the force, Feb. 16, 2011.
Billings was named police chief on Oct. 5, 1998.
A Pueblo native, Billings said he planned to remain involved in the community in retirement, but that he and his wife, June, intend to travel and spend more time with family.
He stated that before he retires, he would finish a five-year strategic plan for the department, complete the department’s Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police re-accreditation and serve as host to the Rocky Mountain Women in Law Enforcement Conference in September.
