A 45-year-old Federal Heights man who died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday in the Buffalo Creek area of Jefferson County has been identified.

Bret Archuleta was the driver of a 1998 Ford Windstar van that left the road on Colorado Highway 126 and crashed into a tree, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash likely happened between midnight and about 6 a.m., said Trooper Nate Reid, a spokesman with the Colorado State Patrol.

Archuleta was driving north on highway 126, about 13 miles south of U.S. Highway 285, when the crash happened, Reid said.

A passerby discovered the van at about 7:10 a.m. Monday and called 911.

Foggy conditions and wet roads may have contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation.
