A controlled fire nine miles south of Norwood in San Miguel County has grown to about 271 acres.

The Goshorn fire has now reached the desired perimeter, and officials said in a new release they expect the burn to create good forage and wildlife habitat for next year.

The fire is burning in the Uncompahgre National Forest, and is expected to continue to burn into Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag warning” for the area for Saturday calling for strong winds and high temperatures. Depending on the conditions, firefighters may begin the initial attack on the fire on Saturday.
