BOSTON — Boston Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka is expected to come off the disabled list and start against the Rockies on Thursday night.

Matsuzaka was scratched just before the first pitch of his scheduled start last Saturday against Philadelphia and later placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained forearm after feeling discomfort warming up.

He threw 49 pitches in a side session before Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“He felt fine,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.

Matsuzaka is 5-2 with a 4.59 ERA in eight starts this season.

• Red Sox right fielder J.D. Drew was out of the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers but doesn’t think his right hamstring injury will sideline him for long. He injured the hamstring during Friday’s game.

Monasterios goes on DL.

The Dodgers placed right-hander Carlos Monasterios on the 15-day disabled list with injuries to the fingers on his pitching hand.

Vicente Padilla was activated before starting Saturday’s game against the Red Sox. Padilla gave up four runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Monasterios is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in six starts. Manager Joe Torre said he had blisters on his middle and index fingers.

Footnotes.

Royals center fielder Rick Ankiel had a setback in his minor-league rehab assignment and returned to Kansas City for treatment on his right quadriceps.

• Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter missed Saturday’s game with a bruised heel.

• The Twins recalled pitcher Jeff Manship from Triple-A Rochester.

• Pirates pitcher Zach Duke will miss his scheduled start Tuesday at Texas because of a strained elbow.
