DURANGO, Colo.—Don Lindley has been named managing editor of the Durango Herald.

The appointment was announced Saturday by Herald Publisher Richard G. Ballantine.

Lindley was executive editor of The Daytona Beach (Fla.) News-Journal from 1988 until April. He has worked for other newspapers in the United States and Japan.

Lindley was active in open-government efforts in Florida, serving as chairman of the board of the state’s First Amendment Foundation and as freedom of information chairman for the board of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors.

He was a member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors freedom of information committee from 2001 to 2008.
