Whether you believe the legend of Crested Butte being the birthplace of mountain biking or not, there’s no denying that Fat Tire Bike Week qualifies as an original. And as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this week, the event is all grown up (sort of).

Ranging from the Cranks & Cameras bike photography workshop (Thursday) to the Mountain States Cup Wildflower Rush races (Friday-Sunday), or the Chainless Downhill Race and party (4 p.m. Friday) in between, there’s something for fans of fat- tire cycling of all kinds. A three-day tech expo (Friday-Sunday) includes guided/aided rides on the celebrated trails of Crested Butte, and endurance gluttons can tackle the Fat Tire 40 race (Saturday).

Off-the-bike options include Yoga for Cyclists workshops all weekend and a free concert featuring Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe at the Mt. Crested Butte base area at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Go: has a complete schedule of events.
