Social situations may not be the place to talk about money, but I think you’ll agree that it makes “good cents” to mention how Tiffany Frieson and Nicholas Sommers, two of the teens presented at the 2010 Le Bal de Ballet, really cleaned up in the college scholarship department.
Frieson, the daughter of Daniel and Andrea Frieson of Centennial, received $40,000 in scholarship offers from all six of the colleges to which she applied; Sommers, whose parents are Steve and Sally Sommers of Greenwood Village, will continue his education at Gonzaga University, thanks to a $16,000 achievement scholarship.
In addition, Evan Gart, son of John and Martha Gart of Denver, received three merit scholarships to Southern Methodist University, while Endsley Eggert, daughter of Elizabeth and Bill Eggert of Centennial, earned two scholarships to Chapman University.
Frieson, Sommers, Gart and Eggert were among the 58 debutantes and Young Men of Distinction in the spotlight at the black-tie ceremony chaired by Ginger Underwood and hosted by the Denver Ballet Guild. They were presented at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and then taken by horse-drawn carriage to the Sheraton Denver Downtown for dinner and dancing.
Several other honorees distinguished themselves in athletics. Littleton High graduate Jenna Adams, for example, sailed 12 feet, 6 inches to become the state champion women’s 5A pole-vault champ; Kelsi Anderson parlayed her status as Mullen High’s best attack forward and fifth top scorer in Colorado to a spot on the University of Oregon lacrosse team; Sam Stratton (Chatfield High) and Sam Struna (Kent Denver) were captains of their high school varsity football teams; Stratton has a football scholarship to the University of Wyoming, and Struna will major in engineering at Bucknell University.
Others presented at the June 12 rite were Lauren Anderson, Hannah Archuleta, Elisabeth Baker, Jordan Berlind, John Breitenbach, Brianna Broe, Jessica Burke, Vivian Carlson, Logan Clark, Patrick Cline, Spencer Curtiss, Morgan Dorsey, Tenney Espy, Sydney Ford, Logan Galansky, Amy Galoob, Jane Givens, Hilary Glassman, Rebecca Gleichenhaus, Julian Harding, Morgan Haselden, Morgan Joliffe and Benjamin Kane.
Also, Madeleine Kane, Thomas Karrer, Bethany Koelbel, Kellie Kurtz, Will Kurtz, Jonathan Law, Alex Leede, Kellie Lipe, Michael Mager, Kelsey McCallister, Sherman Miller, Keri Neujahr, Megan O’Donnell, Lindsay O’Neal, Alyssa Owens, Claire Peterson, Hannah Pinto, Margaret Rainold, Kelsey Repine, Colin Rhinehart, Mackenzie Richardson, Katie Rushton, Kevin Schoelzel, Julia Simon, Nelson Smith, Kaelin Stone and Allison Wilson.
