Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc., a Thornton-based maker of flexible, thin-film solar cells, and a consortium of other companies has won a $3.8 million defense contract to develop a lightweight solar array that can stand up under battle conditions.

The award was made Tuesday by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, according to a statement by Ascent. ITN Energy Systems of Littleton is also part of the development team.
