Wide receiver Austin Gray, a late addition to the Colorado State football team’s incoming freshman class, signed with the Rams after considering decathlon offers from Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Gray, who has competed in nearly every decathlon event except the mile run, made 52 receptions for 828 yards and five touchdowns last season at Wylie High School in Abilene, Texas, according to the Reporter News in Abilene. In his junior season, Gray made 14 catches for 311 yards and four touchdowns. He also scored points for the Wylie track team in several individual and relay events at the Texas Class 3A state championships.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Gray will join the Rams in Fort Collins in a few weeks for summer workouts. Told the temperature was in the low 80s on the Front Range, Gray said, “That’s good, because it just pushed over 100 degrees here and it’s really humid.” He also had offers to play football at Rice and Montana. Hamilton recovering from brain-tumor surgery.

Scott Hamilton, a former world and Olympic figure skating champion and a 1990 inductee into the World Skating Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, had surgery Wednesday to remove a benign brain tumor.

Hamilton’s publicist, Michael Sterling, said Hamilton was “doing very well” after surgery at a Boston hospital and was expected to make a full recovery.

Doctors discovered the tumor near Hamilton’s pituitary gland in 2004. He underwent a successful procedure to have the tumor shrunk, but it grew back and forced him to have the surgery to remove it.

Carrie Simons, spokeswoman for Hamilton and his family, said Hamilton was resting comfortably with his family by his side. “He and his family are so thankful to the doctors and surgical team for taking such good care of him and grateful to everyone for their thoughts and prayers,” a statement said.
