An American-born player has not won the LPGA Championship since Juli Inkster in 2000, but Cristie Kerr believes it is time for that drought to end beginning today at Locust Hill (N.Y.) Country Club. Kerr comes off a June 14 victory in the State Farm Classic, becoming the first U.S. player to earn an LPGA Tour win since Michelle Wie won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November. And before Wie’s victory last fall, non-Americans had claimed 17 consecutive tour victories. “I think that we (Americans) need to just stand on the tee and get it done,” Kerr said after winning the State Farm Classic.
