Two Colorado-based hat companies recently won “Hatty” awards for outstanding contributions to the millinery industry. Erin Saboe, below, designer and owner of Go Go Chapeaux in Cherry Creek North, was recognized for the hats she individually shapes and finishes, from fanciful straws to sturdy felt designs. Saboe outfits women for such functions as benefits, Kentucky Derby parties and events like this weekend’s Denver Polo Classic. Prices range from $25 up to $500. 290 Columbine St., 303-377-3555.

Also, Cynthia Surette, director of design at Steamboat Springs-based Chaos Headwear, received the Hat Life Award for the environment and snow-industry category. She created Chaos’ environmentally friendly Green Label Collection, which features a selection of sustainable fibers, including organic cotton, hemp and wool blends and uses “safe” dyes. Surette also has worked on the Moon Shadow — Peru Collection with a sustainability mission. The hand-knit high-end headwear is made by crafters in the mountains of Peru. .

The awards are given annually by the publishers of Hat Life, which promotes the creative, technical and professional aspects of the international headwear industry. Hat Life publishes an annual guide of suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers and industry contacts.
