Wide receiver Austin Gray, a late addition to Colorado State’s incoming freshman football class, signed with the Rams after weighing decathlon offers from Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Gray, who has competed in nearly every decathlon event except the mile, nabbed 52 receptions for 828 yards and five TDs las season at Abilene Wylie High School in Texas, according to the Reporter News in Abilene. In his junior at season, he had 14 catches for 311 yards and 4 TDs.

He also scored points for his team in several individual and relay events of the Texas Class 3A state meet.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver will join his future CSU teammates in Fort Collins in a few weeks for summer workouts. Told the temperature was in the low 80’s on the Front Range, Gray said “That’s good because it just pushed over 100 degrees here and it’s really humid.”

He picked CSU’s football offer over Rice and Montana.
