A fatal accident has closed U.S. 36 north of Boulder in both directions from South Broadway to near Neva Road.

The accident happened at about 5:05 p.m. when a Suburu Legacy that was driving south crossed over to the northbound lanes and hit a Windsor mobile home head on, according to Trooper Heather Cobler, a Colorado State Patrol spokeswoman.

The Suburu was pinned under the mobile home and dragged for 134 feet as it went down an embankment on the right side of the road.

The driver of the Suburu, a male appearing to be in his 60s was killed.

No one else was in the Suburu.

Two people who were in the mobile home — a man and woman from Florida in their 70s — were taken to Boulder Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Cobler said troopers are investigating the reason for the Suburu to have crossed lanes into oncoming traffic. She said alcohol is not suspected at this point.

The road is expected to remain closed through for a few more hours while troops investigate.
