WOODY CREEK — One of the last of the historic upper valley ranches originally settled by Italian immigrants who poured into the Aspen area in the late 19th century is going on the market after nearly 130 years of operation.

The Craig family listed the ranch for sale this week for $43 million. They are only the third owners of the ranch, which was settled in the early 1880s.

The property comes with approvals from Pitkin County for four new homes on 838 acres, plus the ability to enlarge a historic home. Carol Craig and her children Jennifer and Michael own the ranch. Another 210 acres of the ranch, owned by Carol’s daughter, Kathleen, is on the market separately but could easily attract the same buyer, family members said.

The ranch starts about 2 miles up Woody Creek Road and is on both sides of the road.
