The owners of five malnourished and neglected horses seized Wednesday in Fountain by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region are facing animal cruelty charges, the agency said Thursday.
Animal welfare officers went to the Fountain property after receiving a call that the animals were not being cared for properly. Officers found three adult horses and two foals in poor condition, with obvious signs of neglect and several noticeable wounds.
The owners voluntarily gave up the animals to the humane society. The horses are currently at the society’s stables and undergoing evaluation by a veterinarian.
