A 320-pound bear was shot and killed by a Colorado Division of Wildlife officer early Thursday after it entered a Bailey home and bit the homeowner.
The DOW said a family awoke shortly after midnight to sounds of the bear in their kitchen. Jack Hansell, 51, grabbed a bat and followed it into the basement. The bear bit him in the leg, scratched him and knocked him down. The bear then ran upstairs to a loft. It was eventually killed by a DOW officer. Hansell was treated and released at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood.
It is believed the bear entered the house through an open garage door.
