The Colorado Department of Transportation said it expects to spend about $4.3 million on rockfall mitigation projects around the state during the remainder of this year and in 2011.

CDOT will spend $1.4 million on additional rockfall fencing and draped netting along Interstate 70 at Georgetown Hill, one of the state’s most active rockfall sites.

The agency also will repair and improve rockfall fences along I-70 in Glenwood Canyon and do rockfall prevention work on Colorado 82 at Shale Bluffs and Colorado 145 at Norwood Hill.

CDOT’s plan includes rock scaling, blasting and the installation of netting along U.S. 285 in Turkey Creek Canyon and the agency said it will evaluate rockfall mitigation techniques for Colorado 133 over McClure Pass.
