Lone Tree is running as far away as possible from the “Lone Tree Declaration.”
Residents in the suburb called their city officials after learning organizers of a conservative summit this weekend are going to ask participants to sign the Lone Tree Declaration, sort of a conservative manifesto.
The city of Lone Tree issued a news release saying it had nothing do with the Western Conservative Summit and has asked the organizers to retitle the declaration.
The title stays.
“With all the news coverage, the declaration is now too famous for a name change,” said former state Sen. John Andrews. “It’s too bad the city is so publicity shy, but we hope some of the locals will sign anyway.”
The summit, which Andrews helped organize, opens Friday at the Marriott Denver South, which has a Littleton mailing address. But all of the news releases about the event say it is being held in Lone Tree.
“Technically it’s not, but to quote Tina Fey, ‘We can see Lone Tree from the hotel,’ ” Andrews quipped.
