Xcel Energy’s Comanche 3 power plant near Pueblo, which has been up and running since May, reached full capacity Tuesday.
“It went fully on line and passed all of the testing that it needed,” said Michelle Aguayo, spokeswoman for the company.
The third unit in the plant is designed to produce 750 megawatts of power. The first unit, which went on line in 1973, produces 325 megawatts, and the second unit, completed in 1975, produces 335 megawatts. The plant had been shut down in April to repair boiler-tube leaks and to install baffles to dampen high- pitched noises that disturbed residents living nearby.
Xcel agreed in December to keep about $50 million in Comanche costs out of rates until the plant was operating.
