When Daniel Negreanu doubled his chips early during his second session at the World Series of Poker main event, he convinced an opponent to call with no chance of winning the pot. Negreanu said Friday that the psychology of card games gives observant professionals an edge over amateurs early during the no-limit Texas Hold ’em tournament. “It’s much more difficult to manipulate the mind of a professional. But people who are new to the game, the things you say you can actually direct them in a way that you want. They’re not accustomed to being sort of bamboozled.”
