ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Federal safety officials say a welder has died from injuries he suffered when vapor exploded in a 21,000-gallon fuel tank in the Denver suburb of Englewood.

The incident occurred Thursday. The welder’s name hasn’t been released.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board says the tank was partially filled with a mixture of water and flammable hydrocarbons, which caught fire from a spark.

The board says the welder was thrown from a ladder and suffered fatal injuries.

Englewood police and fire departments are investigating, and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration will also review the incident.
