Olympians Sarah Haskins of Colorado Springs and Matt Reed of Boulder successfully defended their titles at the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis on Saturday, with each winning $20,000.
Haskins completed her course in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 49 seconds, beating women’s runner-up Rebeccah Wassner of New Paltz, N.Y., by nearly two minutes. Mary Beth Ellis of Boulder was third (2:07:36). Hask- ins left the water a minute behind Sara McLarty of Clermont, Fla., then had the top bike and run splits.
Reed also was joined on the podium by a fellow Coloradan. Matt Chrabot of Colorado Springs finished second, eight seconds behind Reed’s winning men’s time of 1:48:34. Cameron Dye of Boulder had the day’s quickest swim and bike splits and finished sixth.
Coloradans shine at Bandimere.
Three Colorado racers won their divisions at the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference finals at Bandimere Speedway, but the team title went to Team Number One from Wichita Raceway Park in Iowa Park, Texas.
The Texas team’s 34 points beat Tri-State Raceway of Earlville, Iowa, by four points. Bandimere’s No. 3 team was third with 29 points.
Kaitlyn Tripp of Golden won the visions race cars junior comp class with a 6.918-second pass at 95.83 mph, beating Curtis Moffer of Modesto, Calif.
Sebastian Vennard of Castle Rock, competing for Pueblo Motorsports Park, won the 11-year-old class against Sydney DeLuzio of Strasburg.
Victoria Flores of Littleton had a 7.948-second pass at 78.39 mph, defeating Cruise Worthley of Lakewood in the event’s 14-year-old group.
Finley wins discus event.
Mason Finley won the discus with a toss of 195 feet, 6 inches Friday at the NACAC under-23 track and field championships in Miramar, Fla. Finley, a former Buena Vista star, finished his freshman year at Kansas with Big 12 Conference championships in the discus and shot put. He was the NCAA outdoor runner-up in both events.
