A vigil march will be held in Leadville tonight for Yvonne Flores, who was killed Wednesday evening by a stalker.
Flores, 58, was a teaching assistant for Lake County Schools for almost 20 years.
People joining the “Walk for Vonnie” are scheduled to gather at 8 tonight at The Center, 315 West 6th St., in Leadville.
The gathering place will be marked by a sign reading, “We Love Vonnie,” created by some of her students.
Beginning at 8:17 p.m., walkers will head toward the Lake County Court House, 505 Harrison Ave. Once there, anyone who wants to will be invited to speak. A moment of silence will follow.
Organizers ask those who participate to wear green in remembrance of Vonnie. For more information, call the Advocates of Lake County at 719-486-3530.
Flores had just returned from running an errand and was in the driveway of her home at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday when Anthony Robert Medina, 58, opened fire with a .38 Taurus revolver, Lake County Sheriff Ed Holte said.
Medina then turned the weapon on himself and fired a fatal shot to his head.
Flores died at a hospital.
Holte said that in the past two years, Medina had become increasingly infatuated with Flores, who lived with her husband, Dave, next door to Medina.
Medina was out on bail after being arrested last month for allegedly stalking Flores and had been ordered by a judge to keep away from her.
