GREELEY, Colo.—Animal control officers have removed 71 cats from the home of an elderly Greeley woman.

Officers began gathering the cats last month after firefighters and paramedics went to the house to treat the 85-year-old woman for an undisclosed medical condition.

The woman has been moved to a nursing home. City officials have condemned the house because of its poor condition.

No charges have been filed.

The cats have been taken to the Weld County Humane Society. Society Director Elaine Hicks says some are now up for adoption, but the influx has strained resources.
