A leader in a cross-country car race was arrested by a Colorado state trooper in Idaho Springs on Wednesday afternoon speeding west on Interstate 70 at more than 40 mph above the 65-mph limit in a 2010 BMW M3.

Nicholas Steinman, 22, of Greenwich, Conn., also was charged with reckless driving, said Trooper Heather Cobler, a spokeswoman for the Colorado State Patrol.

The Bullrun Live Rally pits about 100 of “the world’s finest super-cars” that “embark on an epic eight-day rolling party across the USA,” according to its website. The entry fee is $20,000 per car. Steinman was booked into the Clear Creek County Jail and posted a $1,000 bond. Joey Bunch, The Denver Post
