Durango mountain biking star Todd Wells won his second national championship of the weekend and Katie Compton of Colorado Springs cruised to victory in women’s short track Sunday at the SolVista Bike Park in Granby.

After winning the cross country event Saturday, Wells powered his way to victory in men’s short track Sunday. He finished ahead of silver medalist Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski of Boulder. Adam Craig of Bend, Ore., was the bronze medalist.

Compton dominated her race, beating Saturday cross country champion Georgia Gould of Fort Collins. Heather Irmiger of Boulder placed third, and Willow Koerber of Durango finished fifth.

Sky Sox pound Portland again.

Chris Nelson’s two home runs and five RBIs powered the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 10-5 rout of the Portland Beavers in Portland, Ore. The Sky Sox were coming off a 9-1 victory Saturday at Portland.

The Sky Sox (44-50) scored six runs in the first inning Sunday. Kaz Matsui led off the Pacific Coast League game with a home run and Nelson — a third baseman hitting .332 this year — added a three-run shot in the first inning. Nelson’s second homer of the game was a two-run shot in the ninth inning.
