A water main break on West Florida is causing traffic delays in Denver.
The water main break happened on West Florida just west of Federal Boulevard, late Saturday night.
While crews worked last night to repair the “bell” — the connecting piece between the 12-inch water main pipes — a second bell broke, said Stacy Chesney, a spokeswoman for Denver Water.
Chesney said crews expect to take another eight hours to complete repairs.
In the meantime, West Florida is closed from Federal Boulevard to Irving Street.
Three businesses in the area remain without water, but no homes have been affected.
The same pipe had recently been repaired on April 8, for another bell break.
“We have a pipe replacement program where we look at different factors to determine when a pipe needs to be replaced, and this main is already on the list,” Chesney said.
The pipe has been there since, 1959.
“We continually evaluate the pipes, and this could move it up the list,” Chesney said.
There is no time frame for when the water main line would be replaced.
