The treatment: classic manicure/pedicure, $45; one hour
This spa is for: Young urban moms and Washington Park-Bonnie Brae-Polo club ladies who want personal service and someone to chat with during their nail care.
First impressions: Decorated like someone’s living room rather than a nail salon, the shop has an upholstered banquette along one wall where you can nestle in among the pillows before immersing your feet into the pedicure tubs full of swirling water.
The treatment was: Thorough and professional, starting with the soothing pedicure. She soaked, scrubbed, filed and buffed our feet, as well as offered a soothing massage before polishing toes and leading us over to a table for an equally comprehensive manicure. Attention to sanitation and detail is a priority. They use Footlogix products, and both heat sterilizers and liquid disinfectants are used on the metal implements. Our technician even spritzed our flip-flops with sanitizer because “your feet pick up so many germs when you’re walking around in the summer.”
Amenities: A section in the back features comfortable chairs and a table laden with magazines. It’s a good place to wait for your appointment or for letting your nails dry before leaving the salon.
For mothers-t0-be and others wary of chemicals, the salon offers formaldehyde-free polishes.
Room for improvement: The website says you get to keep the nail file and buffer after they use it because they use a new one on each client, but we weren’t offered the tools.
Make the most of your visit: Plan to spend a little extra time on the block visiting such stores as Pink’s and the Bunny Gate or grabbing a sandwich from Fisher Clark Urban Deli.
Repeat visit planned? Yes for the Minx manicure or pedicure. Minx is an enamel process that comes in a variety of designs and is supposed to last up to four weeks. There’s a book of designs to choose from.
Know before you go: Street parking is available, as is a merchant lot to the north of the salon near the Campus Lounge. They’re closed on Mondays but open Sundays. Suzanne S. Brown
