An Aurora police officer has been suspended for a month following two arrests for driving under the influence, the Aurora Sentinel reported Thursday.
“The story in the Sentinel is correct, and we will not be saying anything further at this point,” Bob Friel, spokesman for the Aurora police, said. “The important thing to take away is that we do take these matters seriously.”
The officer, Marc Sears was first arrested on suspicion of DUI in May 2009 when he crashed his motorcycle in Parker, the newspaper said.
Blood tests taken at the hospital led to his DUI charge. Sears is currently trying to appeal the ruling, claiming the blood samples were taken inproperly, the Sentinel said.
The second DUI incident happened in March when he crashed his SUV into a light pole, also in Parker.
Sears refused to take a breath test at the scene, the paper said.
