CARBONDALE, Colo.—Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating a case in which a U.S. citizen in Colorado was swept up in an immigration raid and almost kicked out of the country.
ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok said the immigration agents acted appropriately last week when they went to the home of a Carbondale man as part of a series of gang sweeps. Rusnok says ICE is investigating but wouldn’t comment further.
The target of the raid, Marco Guevara, says he is a U.S. citizen but the agents didn’t believe him and offered him a one-way ticket to Ecuador. Guevara says it was only after his stepmother spoke on his behalf that they believed him.
Guevara says he has a previous drug felony but that he has served his time.
