CHAPPELL, Neb.—A truck driver already charged in state court with abducting an 8-year-old girl from a truck stop in western Nebraska has been indicted on a federal kidnapping count.

A news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says 45-year-old William Buckner of Shortsville, N.Y., took the girl into nearby Colorado.

Gilg’s spokesman Jan Sharp said Thursday that federal and state prosecutors have been talking, but no decision had been made on whether Buckner would be tried in Nebraska or federal court.

State authorities say the girl was abducted while her family was at the Bosselman Travel Center at the Big Springs Interstate 80 interchange on June 24.

Buckner remains in custody, pending $350,500 bail. His attorney did not immediately return a call.
