James Holler of Evergreen is the recipient of this week’s $25 gift card to REI for his smart way of including the whole family in their annual RV trip.

“There are always so many things to keep track of when you go on a big, long trip, and if you’re me, the driver, it’s crazy enough to have to be in charge of the gas, the propane and the water tanks, and making sure everybody is in the thing when we take off, including the dog. So we came up with checklists that everybody is in charge of.

“My oldest daughter, Jennifer, takes care of the holding tanks and the switches, making sure everything is turned off before we go and reporting on how full everything is or isn’t. My daughter Emily is in charge of closing windows, curtains, doors, making sure stuff isn’t loose anywhere. My son, Brett, is in charge of the dog and charging cellphones and other electronics. My wife takes care of the food and the laundry situation, so we know when we pull into the next place if we’re going to need to do anything about that. I am maps and gas.”
