In three races since Capps’ funny car team replaced crew chief Ace McCulloch with John Medlen, Capps has advanced to the quarterfinals in Norwalk, Conn., the finals in Kent, Wash., and the winner’s circle Sunday in Sonoma, Calif. The steady improvement has Capps eying a second consecutive event win Sunday at Bandimere Speedway. His win in Sonoma marked his first triumph since the Bandimere race a year ago. “It’s all confidence, and confidence is built on success,” Capps said in Sonoma. “It’s really a pleasure working with (Medlen). His approach to racing is ‘let’s have fun.’ “
