The rivalry between NHRA top fuel stars Larry Dixon and Tony Schumacher is seemingly at its peak, and it goes far beyond the drivers. Schumacher, the six-time defending world champion, saw his entire team depart and become Dixon’s crew at the end of the 2008 season. Schumacher managed to win another championship last year, but Dixon is having his way this year. He has a series-leading 40-7 record and eight victories in 15 races, including a final-round win Sunday against Schumacher in Sonoma, Calif. Schumacher (33-11) and his teammate, Cory McClenathan, have combined to win the other seven races and are second and third, respectively, in points.
