Eagle County West fest.
The 71st annual Eagle County Fair and Rodeo will bring together professional bull riding, 4-H competitions, a carnival and general Western fun Wednesday through Saturday. The rodeo will begin at 8 each night; 4-H and carnival schedules vary day to day.
Leadville’s blast of the past.
History will come alive at Leadville July 31-Aug. 1, when historical interpreters dress in period costume and represent the stories, professions and daily life of 19th-century town residents. Meet members of the Colorado National Guard, established in Leadville in 1879, blacksmiths and mountain men.
Meet the moose.
Grand Mesa Moose Day will take place Saturday to celebrate one of Colorado’s newest moose populations. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can take part in activities including moose viewing information, presentations about moose biology and moose history, presentations on how biologists transplant and track moose and a puppet show. Family and kid-friendly events and giveaways are planned throughout the day. All activities are free; the day’s festivities will take place at the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center atop Grand Mesa on Colorado 65.
Alphorn concerto.
The second Crested Butte Music Festival symphony will take place Aug. 1 and exhibit one of the world’s best alphorn players, Arkady Shilkloper, performing Daniel Schnyder’s Concerto for Alphorn and Orchestra. Adult tickets are $45, and student tickets are $10.
Tour art studios.
The Red Cliff Studio Tour gives 13 local artists the opportunity to open their homes and studios to the public for two days of shared artistry. Paintings, photography, ceramics, sculpture and more are shown. Some artists will offer demonstrations of their craft. This event will take place Aug. 21-22, from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. each day. Red Cliff is located between Minturn and Leadville on U.S. 24. Maps for the tour are available at Mango’s Mountain Grill (166 1/2 Eagle St).
