Drew Westervelt of the Denver Outlaws had three goals as Team USA downed Japan 20-5 on Thursday to advance to the championship game of the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships on Saturday in Manchester, England. Canada, the defending champion, defeated Australia 15-6 in the other semifinal.

Colorado Rush splits openers.

The Colorado Rush girls under-16 soccer team is 1-1 at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Overland Park, Kan., after losing 1-0 to Solar Red 94 of Texas.

The Real Colorado national girls U-15 squad is 0-1-1 after a 7-0 loss to Sting 95 of Texas.

East’s Bishop chooses Arizona.

Denver East’s Ezekiel Bishop committed to play at Arizona, and he said his relationship with Greg Brown, who left the University of Colorado’s staff to become Arizona’s co-defensive coordinator, was the primary reason.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Bishop was all over the field for East last season, playing linebacker, nickel back, running back and fullback for the Angels.

Fulton finishes 12th.

Eleanor Fulton, an incoming senior at Highlands Ranch High School, finished 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the IAAF World Junior Championships after landing on a pile of runners who crashed after a runner fell in the water pit. Fulton hurt her ankle in the incident.
