LOVELAND, Colo.—Voters in Loveland will decide in November whether to bar medical marijuana dispensaries from the city.

State lawmakers passed legislation this year regulating dispensaries, but the legislation also allowed cities and counties to ban the shops.

The Loveland City Council voted 7-2 Wednesday to put the issue on the ballot. If voters decide to bar dispensaries, existing shops would have to close by March 1.

Until then, approved businesses can cultivate and sell marijuana for medical use. A moratorium on new dispensaries remains.
