ARVADA — When Mardean Gibson awoke Wednesday morning, she was shocked to see her front yard empty.

“You can’t have anything nice anymore,” she said.

Gibson started collecting gnomes about five years ago. In all, she had about 200 of them.

“I think they’re cute,” she said. “They’re supposed to bring you good luck!”

Someone sneaked onto Gibson’s front lawn near Otis Court and Reno Drive early Wednesday and snatched close to 150 of them, worth an estimated $2,000. Most of them were gifts.

“I had them all along the flower bed here, and then I had them on the brick,” Gibson said as she pointed toward her fence. “I had them all out in front of my flowerpots.”

None of Gibson’s neighbors reported seeing anything suspicious.

Anyone with information about the missing gnomes is asked to call Arvada police at 720-898-6900. Gibson said she would like her gnomes back, no questions asked.
