Less than a month to go before school starts again, some Lakewood parents say they are scared to let their kids go back on school property.

They say there is a family of seven coyotes that roam near the playground of Kendrick Lakes Elementary School that is located near Mississippi and Kipling.

While 9NEWS crews were on the school grounds Tuesday, there were two coyotes out roaming less than 100 feet from the school property. Parents and neighbors say although no run-ins have happened yet, they think it’s a dangerous situation waiting to happen.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife says there was a den the coyotes used to inhabit, but a ditch company inadvertently happened to disturb their home.

Jennifer Churchill with the DOW says she doesn’t think parents should be too concerned, but neighbors disagree.
