A Utah medical examiner has determined that Colorado Rockies President Keli McGregor died of natural causes, authorities say, but they refuse to disclose what killed the previously seemingly healthy 48-year-old.
“There were no drugs in his system,” said Sgt. Robin Snyder, spokeswoman for the Salt Lake Police Department. “He died of natural causes.”
Snyder added that there was nothing suspicious found at his hotel room.
McGregor, 48, was found dead in a hotel room at the Grand America Hotel downtown in Salt Lake City at 9 a.m. on April 20.
Homicide detectives received a copy of the autopsy two days ago, Snyder said. Their investigation is now completed, she said.
The lengthy delay in completing the autopsy was caused by a delay in getting results of toxicology tests on McGregor.
Utah law makes autopsy reports confidential, and authorizes their release only to next-of-kin, law enforcement, or a treating physician. Salt Lake City Police refused to reveal the cause of McGregor’s death.
McGregor, a former football player, was said by friends to be in excellent health, and he worked out regularly.
The finding of natural causes was first reported by KCNC-TV, channel 4.
