
LOS ANGELES-Fox’s musical comedy “Glee” was the big winner at the Television Critics Association awards Saturday. “Glee” took the top honor as “Program of the Year,” as well as “outstanding new program” and “individual achievement in comedy” for Jane Lynch.
“Glee” was the only series to win multiple awards from the 200-plus professional TV critics.
“If our show just makes it a little harder for districts to cut (music education) programs, we’re doing our job,” said writer-producer Ian Brennan
ABC’s “Modern Family” won “Outstanding Achievement in Comedy,” and ABC’s “Lost” and AMC’s “Breaking Bad” tied in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Drama.”
Julianna Margulies, star of CBS’s “The Good Wife,” received the award for “Individual Achievement in Drama,” and HBO’s World War II miniseries epic “The Pacific” garnered “Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials.” Tom Hanks delivered a moving acceptance speech linking WWII to current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
James Garner was honored with a career achievement award. “M*A*S*H,” the CBS series, won Heritage Award for its lasting cultural and social impact. Writer-producer Gene Reynolds accepted, in the company of Mike Farrell and Willian Christopher.
Dax Shepard, star of NBC’s “Parenthood,” introduced the ceremony that bestowed 11 awards.
