MORRISON, Colo.—Firefighters say a grass fire that broke out on the western edge of the Denver area has burned about 85 acres.
The fire was close to being 60 percent contained Tuesday night. Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer says crews will stay at the site overnight.
The fire is burning along C-470 just south of Morrison Road and was reported Monday afternoon, when it grew quickly in part because of winds. It’s not known how it started.
Techmeyer says high humidity and cloudy skies have helped crews.
